A surprising number of leaders build Scorecards… then still feel the need to check everything themselves.
Every email.
Every customer issue.
Every sales update.
Every fire.
That’s exhausting.
And usually, it’s a sign the Scorecard is not giving you the confidence it should.
The real purpose of a great EOS Scorecard is not more oversight.
It’s freedom.
When the right measurables are reviewed weekly, leaders stop chasing activity and start trusting signals. You no longer need to hover over every detail because the numbers tell you where attention is needed.
That’s the shift.
You move from managing people constantly to managing the business systematically.
The EOS Data book tells a great story about a business owner who was copied on every customer email because he was obsessed with response time. Once response time became a measurable on the Scorecard, performance improved without his constant involvement.
That’s what healthy accountability looks like.
Not more control.
More visibility.
Try this exercise.
List the three things you personally check too often each week.
Then ask:
“What measurable would give me confidence without needing to insert myself into the process?”
That question usually reveals where your Scorecard still needs work.
Because the right data should help you let go of the vine a little.
Not tighten your grip.
Stay on track,
